This year, July Fourth falls on a Saturday, which means retailers are running all sorts of sales and promotions for the holiday weekend. Many of these deals and discounts are already available, so you don’t have to wait for the weekend to shop and save.
July Fourth sales are typically similar to what you’ll find for Memorial Day and Labor Day: Large appliances, mattresses, grills, and some tech devices are seeing big discounts right now. And Consumer Reports has been tracking all the best holiday weekend sales on top-tested products to make your search easier.
If you decide to shop in a store, consider wearing a mask, and employ basic infection control practices.
What’s on Sale This July Fourth
As with any holiday, you will find an abundance of sales and deals over Independence Day weekend. Even in light of the global pandemic shifting how people live and shop, retailers haven’t stopped offering sales both online and in-store. It’s an especially good time to shop if you’re in the market for mattresses, large appliances, and grills.
The bulk of July Fourth sales tend to focus on things you need around the home, with an emphasis on those big-ticket items. But you can also find plenty of savings on assorted home goods and tech devices like TVs and headphones.
There are also plenty of July Fourth sales on clothing, accessories, furniture, and home décor. Look to popular retailers such as Anthropologie, the Gap, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Old Navy, Sur La Table, Wayfair, and others. These discounts can be great if you’re itching to invest in some new clothes for summer or to redecorate the rooms you’ve spent too much time in lately.
There are so many appliances on sale for July Fourth that you can find and save on whatever you need pretty easily. We’re seeing big discounts on refrigerators, washers and dryers, ranges, and dishwashers, and you can find similar savings at all the major spots.
If you want something you can pick up at a nearby walk-in location, check out Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Walmart. If doorstep delivery is more ideal, you can still shop at those places, but you may be able to find a slightly better price at a site such as AJ Madison or Appliances Connection.
Here are a few highlights of the best July Fourth appliance sales this year.
LG Smart 24-Inch Dishwasher
The deal: $825 to $828 at AJ Madison and Home Depot
CR’s test results: LG LDT7808BM
This high-end LG washes and dries well in our lab tests, and is very quiet. However, its Overall Score takes a hit from the middling marks that owners give LG dishwashers for reliability and owner satisfaction in CR’s member surveys. The racks have adjustable tines, and the flatware slots are spacious; a WiFi feature lets you control the machine remotely.
Samsung Single-Oven Slide-In Range
The deal: $599 at Lowe’s; $649 at Appliances Connection, Best Buy, and Home Depot
CR’s test results: Samsung NX58H5600SS single-oven gas range
This Samsung is a feature-packed model with solid performance, making it one of the better deals we’ve seen for this holiday weekend. It has five burners, including an integrated griddle on the cooktop, as well as a convection oven and storage drawer. At up to $450 off its regular price, it’s a good deal, though we have seen this model frequently discounted, usually to around the price you’ll pay this July Fourth.
LG French-Door Refrigerator
The deal: $995 to $1,000 at Appliances Connection, Best Buy, and Home Depot
CR’s test results: LG LFCS22520S French-door refrigerator
This 30-inch French-door LG features an icemaker, spillproof shelves, half shelves for organizing your fresh food, and digital controls, wrapped in a stainless steel finish. Though it lacks a water and ice dispenser, it makes up for it with terrific temperature control in our tests and a price that’s hard to pass up.
Kenmore Top-Loader Washing Machine
The deal: $700 at Sears
CR’s test results: Kenmore 28132 top-load HE washer (and Kenmore 68132 electric dryer)
Impressive performance and one of the biggest capacities we’ve seen are reasons to consider this washing machine. Capacity is 5.3 cubic feet, and you typically have to spend a lot more for a washer that big. It’s big enough to fit a king-size comforter (any washer more than 4.5 cubic feet can fit one). The 60-minute wash time is also appealing, and that’s using the normal wash/heavy-soil setting. The normal-soil setting is faster.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Check out our full list of the best July Fourth appliance deals on CR’s top-tested models.
Though deals on tech devices are not a cornerstone of July Fourth discounts, there are still some great offers available. Whether you want a pair of noise-canceling headphones to work smarter from home or your family room is in desperate need of a new speaker for movie night, this could be the perfect time to pick something up at a great low price.
Here are a few of our favorite tech deals happening right now.
Jabra True Wireless Headphones
The deal: $120 at Amazon
CR’s test results: Jabra Elite 65t headphones
Like the popular Apple AirPods, this sports-oriented model has a true wireless design, which means the earpieces are completely untethered. The headphones deliver high-quality audio and come with some convenient features, such as the ability to use only the right-hand earpiece when you don’t want to wear both, and a quick-charge function that will boost your battery for an additional 1.5 hours after only 15 minutes, according to Jabra. The advertised battery life of up to 5 hours falls in the midrange for true wireless models.
Microsoft Surface Pro 7
The deal: $769 at Amazon
CR’s test results: Microsoft Surface Pro 7 (Core i5) computer
With fast processing speeds and a convenient touch screen, the Surface Pro 7 performed well in our tests, and it’s a little more than $100 cheaper here than at other retailers. Keep in mind that the keyboard, which detaches so that you can use the touch screen as a tablet, costs an additional $130. Shipping is not free on this item at the moment, but it was just discounted about $11 compared with what we saw over last weekend, which just about balances out the shipping cost.
Samsung 65-Inch QLED Smart 4K TV
The deal: $800 at Best Buy
CR’s test results: Samsung QN65Q60R 65-inch QLED 4K smart TV
This set is from Samsung’s entry-level series of QLED TVs for 2019, and it’s back on sale for the same $100 discount we saw for Memorial Day. The TV offers satisfying overall picture quality, though the HDR performance, which can produce enhanced contrast and brighter highlights when done well, isn’t as good as we’ve seen on Samsung’s pricier QLED models.

If you’re in need of a new grill, whether you’re a newbie or you’re ready for an upgrade, there are plenty of July Fourth sales on gas, kamado, and charcoal grills to check out this holiday weekend. Here are a few of our favorites:
Char-Broil Gas Grill
The deal: $269 at Lowe’s
CR’s test results: Char-Broil Performance 463342119 grill (Lowe’s)
This Char-Broil is the model to beat if you want solid, no-frills performance at a great price. Even without the $30 discount, this grill is a great deal. Its all-stainless construction gives it a polished look, and it has a side burner, too, both of which are rare finds in this price range.
Landmann Charcoal Grill
The deal: $168 at Wayfair
CR’s test results: Landmann Vista 560200 charcoal grill
This charcoal grill usually sells for more than $300, but Wayfair is offering a discount of almost 50 percent right now. It scores well when it comes to cooking food evenly and indirectly, and it’s convenient to use and easy to clean.
Vision Kamado Grill
The deal: $622 at Home Depot
CR’s test results: Vision Kamado Professional S-T4C1D1 grill
Kamado grills are amazing for cooking at low and high temperature extremes—think searing a steak or pizza, or slow-smoking ribs or brisket. The Vision Grills Professional is a great all-around performer within the category and includes tons of features, including two side shelves, a slot for an electronic coal igniter, and multiple dampers and split racks. It’s really rare to see ceramic kamado grills go on sale—this is the only time we’ve ever seen a discount on this Vision Kamado. The only catch? To realize the $77 savings, you’ll need to buy the grill in taupe, orange, or red—the signature black finish is selling for the full price of $699.

Independence Day is a great holiday to shop for a new mattress, and there are loads of deals on all the top brands right now. You can find savings on popular brands like Casper and Tuft & Needle, as well as newer options such as Ghostbed and Tulo. Here are a few of our favorite July Fourth sales on mattresses:
GhostBed Mattress (Queen)
The deal: $821 at GhostBed
CR’s test results: GhostBed The GhostBed mattress
This online-only bed-in-a-box retailer is offering a discount on its namesake mattress, the GhostBed. Though this isn’t the cheapest price we’ve seen for the mattress, the company is throwing in two free pillows on top of a discount of $274.
The queen-size GhostBed does well in our tests for supporting petites who sleep on their back, and it earns top marks for durability, which means it shows little change in performance after eight to 10 years of simulated use in our tests.
Serta Perfect Sleeper Hybrid Mattress (Queen)
The deal: $899 at US-Mattress
CR’s test results: Serta Perfect Sleeper Hybrid Standale II Luxury mattress
The Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress combines innersprings and gel-infused memory foam, and based on our tests, is a decent choice for almost any type of sleeper. This mattress typically sells for around $1,000, so you’re getting $100 off. This is an early July Fourth sale, however, so the price may drop closer to the holiday if you want to wait and see whether you can save more next week.
Tulo Medium Firm Mattress (Queen)
The deal: $399 at Tulo
CR’s test results: Tulo Medium Firm mattress
The Tulo Medium Firm earns our highest marks in our durability tests, maintaining its support after a simulated eight to 10 years of use. It offers great support for petites, whether they sleep on their side or back, and for average-sized people who sleep on their side. In terms of stability, this mattress is better than average, which means it stays fairly stable when someone moves around in bed.
Right now, the queen-size Tulo Medium Firm mattress is selling for $399, making it one of the least expensive mattresses that’s on sale for July Fourth.
